Blue Willow Dinnerware
Blue willow dinnerware is distinctive and unique as well as historic in nature. I'm not sure what about these plates and dishes attracts us so deeply but there's something fundamentally beautiful about them that appeals to many different people across the many different spectrums and divides. They truly are works of art and that's why I wanted talk about them today.

Blue Willow 20 Piece Set by Blue Willow This set cost around $20 and is fairly indicative of what you can expect from other sites. This is, as the names suggested, a 20 piece set of Churchill China that is made of porcelain, of course, but interestingly enough this set is both microwave-safe as well as dishwasher safe. Designed by a set of artisans of 17th century England, it was based on a popular design from China. It comes with four dinner plates, four teacups, four saucers, four fruit or cereal bowls, and four salad plates.
Johnson Brothers Willow Blue 5-Piece Place Setting this is a great five piece set that costs only $25 and is very beautiful to look at. It contains a dinner plate, salad plate, cereal bowl, teacup, and saucer that are also made in the same Willow blue design. Lucky for you these plates are also dishwasher safe. Like all plates of this kind they are dominated by the blue pattern throughout with a little less white than some others may have.
Johnson Brothers Blue Willow 20 Piece Set this is similar to the last set but contains enough pieces for four people and cost $120. The pieces are made out of earthenware and were made in China from a pattern introduced in 1930. They are freezer, as well as microwave and dishwasher safe and come complete with four each of a teacup, saucer, dinner plate, salad plate, and cereal bowl. This design gives you a touch of the Orient that is sure to please you for years to come.
HIC Blue Willow 10-1/4-Inch Dinner Plate, Set of 4 slightly different in design is this $46 set. I'm calling it a set but it's really just four dinner plates that are made out of porcelain and contain the blue willow design which is stencil added by hand and then fired to maintain its lovely finish. Unfortunately these dishes are not microwave or oven safe and you really should not wash them in the dishwasher, so hand washing is recommended. Each plate is approximately 10 1/4 inch in diameter.
When it comes to blue willow dinnerware you have many different options but one thing to keep in mind is that the pattern isn't always the same on each set; they vary from company to company so you really want to be careful about which ones you purchase. This means generally holding the plates in your hand and seeing for yourself exactly what you're getting because these are primarily art pieces albeit functional art. The point is, you want a design that you like so be sure to keep that in mind when you purchase.
